WATCH: Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence once surprised Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart with Gatorade POTY Award

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence once gave Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart the surprise of a lifetime, revealing Dart had been named the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2021. Dart, who had just enrolled early at USC from Corner Canyon High School, was expecting a routine interview about joining the Pac-12.

Lawrence, the 2021 NFL Draft No. 1 overall pick and 2017 Gatorade Player of the Year, delivered the news personally, catching Dart completely off guard.

"Hey, I wanted to be the one to announce and congratulate you on being the '2021 Gatorade National Football Player of the Year'. Congrats." [00:20]

“He was surprised,” Lawrence said. “He didn’t know he was getting the award for one, [and] didn’t know I was presenting it. So it was cool. And he had all of his buddies behind them. So that was cool.”

Jaxson Dart described the experience as surreal and how meaningful it was to receive the award from Lawrence. The former Clemson Tiger won the award while playing QB for Cartersville High School, Georgia.
