WATCH: Massive brawl breaks out in NC State - North Carolina rivalry game after Wolfpack attempt to plant a flag on the field

It seems to be the day for planting flags, as after North Carolina's 35-30 defeat to NC State, a Wolfpack player attempted to plant a flag on the logo of the Tar Heels in the middle of the field.

In a scene reminiscent of what had happened earlier in Columbus, Ohio, it sparked a fight between the rival schools, which quickly grew out of control, in Chapel Hill.

Here's the video of the massive brawl:

At one point, wide receiver Tylee Craft took the flag and threw it away from the field. The incident cut short any commemoration the Tar Heels wanted to do for coach Mack Brown, who was leading North Carolina for the last time following his dismissal by school authorities earlier in the year.

Both coaches expressed their delight regarding the attitude their players showed during the rivalry game. Dave Doeren said about his Wolfpack:

“These kids just get up and fight — these grown men get up and fight, and I'm proud of them, every time they made a play on their sideline, we responded with a play on our sideline.”

Doeren might as well have been talking about the incident that occurred following the end of the game. Meanwhile, Mack Brown said following his last game in charge of the Tar Heels:

“I'm absolutely amazed that they were able to compete like they did tonight and play as hard as they did, with all the pressure on them and with the uncertainty in their future, so I'm really, really proud of them.”

The win was especially important for NC State, as it gave them an overall record of 6-6, which more likely than not warrant a bowl invitation. North Carolina, meanwhile, ended with the same record as the Wolfpack, with an overall mark of 6-6 and an ACC record of 3-5.
