Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers raised championship hopes among Longhorns fans after he took down the then No. 10 ranked Michigan Wolverines in their own backyard. In their Week 2 matchup, the Longhorns won 31-12 in Ann Arbor.
Ewers' Heisman-caliber performance sent the Longhorns over the moon. Ahead of their Week 3 game against the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday, the Longhorns' Instagram handle shared a hyped video of the quarterback where he can be seen making crucial plays from this season.
So far in two games played, Ewers has thrown for 506 yards, six touchdowns and one interception with a passing completion rate of 69.8%. His dominance helped the Longhorns achieve the No. 2 ranking in the nation behind the Georgia Bulldogs.
Quinn Ewers was the best player in Week 2, raising his Heisman odds
Texas versus Michigan was the best matchup on paper in Week 2. So it was only natural for many analysts to hail Ewers high after he made it a one-sided affair. Ewers completed 24-of-36 passing attempts for 246 yards and three touchdowns.
After Ewers led his team to win over Michigan, he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, Davey O'Brien Great 8 Week 2 honoree and Manning Award Star of the Week. He was also recognized for the Maxwell Award Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Furthermore, college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit named him the best player from Week 2 ahead of the likes of Kyle McCord and Cam Skattebo.
According to BetMGM, Quinn Ewers leads all college football stars in the odds (+500) to win the Heisman Trophy this season. Per the site, Ewers has a 16.7% chance to win the coveted award.
Miami's quarterback, Cam Ward, comes behind Ewers in the race for the Heisman Trophy with +700 odds and 12.5% chance.
Quinn Ewers will be extra motivated to do well as he hopes to get picked higher in next year's NFL draft. He will need to sustain his performance levels throughout the season and also in the playoffs, where Texas is seen as having a good shot for the pennant.
