In Week 8, Travis Hunter had a quieter performance compared to his usual explosive plays. He entered the game as third on the list of Heisman Trophy contenders, but his impact was limited both offensively and defensively due to his injured shoulder since Week 7.
On defense, he recorded one tackle across 13 plays before leaving the game for good. Offensively, he made two catches for 17 yards in 41 snaps, a far cry from his season average. However, Hunter's overall season stats up to this point have remained impressive, with 51 receptions for 604 yards and screaming defensive numbers, including two interceptions.
What does the Week 8 win mean for the Colorado Buffaloes?
The Week 8 win over the Arizona Wildcats was a shining moment for the Colorado Buffaloes (5-2, 3-1, Big 12), showing just how far they've come under coach Deion Sanders. With the victory, Colorado improved to the fourth position in Big 12 play, placing the Buffs in a tie with Cincinnati.
Their last win is also a leap from their dismal 4-8 record last season, proving that Coach Prime’s influence and the team’s growing confidence translate into tangible results on the field.
What’s particularly notable about this win is the shift in pressure away from key players like quarterback Shedeur Sanders and wide receiver Travis Hunter as compared to the last season. While still an essential leader, Sanders threw for 250 yards, completing 23 of 33 passes with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
However, Colorado still has some ground to cover in the national spotlight. ESPN currently gives it just a 6.7% chance of making the College Football Playoff, meaning it is not yet seen as a major contender.
But with an upcoming game against Cincinnati and a favorable schedule for the remainder of the season, the Buffaloes have a strong chance to keep building momentum and finish the season strong in and for the Big 12.
