"We going to affect your check”: Deion Sanders issues stern warning to Colorado seniors if they underperform in academics

Colorado coach Deion Sanders wants his players to perform outstandingly both on and off the field. Coach Prime is known for helping young talents develop themselves overall as a human being while also making a name for themselves on the gridiron.

During a recent team meeting, Deion Sanders issued a stern warning to his senior players to do well in their academics. He stated that if they do not pass their classes with flying colors, it will also affect their NIL incomes.

"Seniors, I want you to listen to this," Sanders said. "This is evident ... I don't get involved in that, what you all are earning or what you are making ... You're grown men ... I don't get involved with what you're making and whatever.
"But when you stop going to class, now you're affecting me. So we going to affect your check. When you stop going to class and I see a multitude of F's and D's, we're gonna affect your check. Do we understand that? When you stop doing certain things that you're supposed to do, that you signed up to do, you're gonna be affected. So we're gonna do that."

In his second year in Boulder, Deion Sanders led the Colorado Buffaloes to a 9-4 campaign. They qualified for the Bowl games for the first time since 2020. Unfortunately, the Buffs couldn't secure a victory over the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl.

This season also marks the final collegiate campaign of Coach Prime's sons, Shedeur and Shilo, along with two-way star Travis Hunter. They will be declaring for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

Deion Sanders addresses the team's weaknesses on the gridiron during 2024 season

During the meeting, Coach Prime also addressed their negatives and weaknesses on the field during the season. He also talked about how they will be focusing on improving their weaknesses and working towards being a successful program next season.

"How can you win nine games and you're 124th in the country and last in the Big 12? That means you don't have the discipline and where does discipline start? It starts in the meeting room, it starts with your personal life, in the weight room ... If you're not disciplined off the field, you're not gonna be disciplined on it.
"So, everything that you see, that we're gonna implement in this spring by the way you dress, the way you prepare, the way you come in your attire and the way you do everything, is gonna be disciplined." (TS-16:40)

Deion Sanders is going to begin a new era in Boulder without his sons. It will be interesting to see if he can help the Buffs to the playoffs next season.
