"We don't like your dad saying nothing": Browns insider issues reality check to Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders ahead of 2025 NFL Draft
After a 3-14 campaign in 2024, the Cleveland Browns' worst mark since the infamous 0-16 season in 2016, the team is back in a familiar position for the 2025 NFL Draft. With a 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week, Cleveland clinched the No. 2 pick in the draft in April.
The Browns are widely expected to target a quarterback with their first pick and Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is viewed as a potential option. It's unclear if Cleveland would be willing to select Sanders, given his father, Deion's, reported intentions to ensure Shedeur lands in the "right spot" in the NFL.
The Buffaloes head coach has said on numerous occasions that he "won't allow" some teams to draft Shedeur and looking at their history, the Browns are likely on that list.
With Shedeur Sanders being projected to Cleveland with the No. 2 pick in several recent mock drafts, Browns insider Garrett Bush referenced a tweet from 2018 during Saturday's podcast on Cleveland Browns on cleveland.com. In the tweet, Deion Sanders said there was "no way" he would go to Cleveland as a young quarterback.
Garrett Bush made his thoughts clear, stating:
"It's very difficult to play (in Cleveland)," Bush said (1:53 mark). "(Browns fans) don't like a lot of extra. We like you to throw touchdowns and be Nick Chubb. Hand the ball to the ref. We don't like watches, we don't like you going on vacations, we don't like your dad saying nothing."
It's uncertain if the Browns will pursue Shedeur Sanders, but it could be unlikely. Cleveland has tried and failed at the quarterback position over the last two decades, something that's sure to turn Deion off as he attempts to work his son into the right system in the NFL.
Shedeur Sanders mocked to Browns at No. 2 by ESPN
ESPN Insider and NFL Draft expert Jordan Reid shared his latest mock draft on Tuesday, predicting the Browns will select Shedeur Sanders with their No. 2 overall pick in April's draft. Reid noted Cleveland's hole at the quarterback position with the latest injury update on Deshaun Watson, adding that bringing in a rookie while signing a veteran free agent is the most realistic target for the Browns.
The team announced Watson suffered a second Achilles tear and required a second surgery to repair the injury once again. Watson is now in jeopardy of missing the entire 2025 season, making quarterback the team's top priority entering the offseason.
The Browns have also been linked to Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who would likely have much less to say about the move than Deion Sanders if Cleveland selected Shedeur. The Browns will enter the offseason backed into a corner as they navigate their quarterback situation while over the salary cap by over $28 million.
