What Bowl game does Georgia play in? Looking at Bulldogs postseason matchup

The Georgia Bulldogs had a roller-coster season en route to being ranked second seed for the upcoming College Football Playoff rounds. The main highlight of their season was losing against the then-No. 4 Alabama and the then-No. 16 Ole Miss. However, they bounced back well, registering wins against all including beating the then-No. 1 Texas twice, once in the regular season and then in the SEC Championship Game.

However, during the SEC Championship game, starting quarterback Carson Beck suffered an elbow injury and his potential return timeline is uncertain.

What Bowl game does Georgia play in?

The Georgia Bulldogs will play the winner of No. 7 Notre Dame vs No. 8 Indiana in the 91st annual Allstate Sugar Bowl. The game is part of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Quarterfinal and will be played at the Caesars Superdome on Jan. 1, 2025. The kickoff is scheduled for 8:45 p.m. ET, with ESPN set to provide coverage.

After winning their 15th Southeastern Conference title over the Longhorns, the Bulldogs earned themselves a first-round bye.

Under Kirby Smart, Georgia has won both the games against Notre Dame (2017 in South Bend and 2019 in Athens). Meanwhile, Indiana and Georgia have never played before.

If Georgia wins this year's Sugar Bowl, they'll advance to Orange Bowl (CFP Semifinal) which will be played on Jan. 9 in Miami. A triumph here should propel them back home where the program hosts this year's CFP National Championship. The game will take place on Monday, Jan. 20, in Atlanta.

"There is a tremendous amount of history (for Georgia at the Sugar Bowl)," Coach Kirby Smart said. "I know -- as a early child, one of the first games that I remember actually seeing and watching back in the early '80s as a 5-, 6-year-old kid and Herschel Walker and the moments that happened in the Sugar Bowl.
"All the way through a lot of games that I've been a part of, whether it was Florida State-Georgia when I was a GA at Florida State; a lot of years at Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. I think my kids think their second home is the Sugar Bowl, because they spent a lot of time there. And they're very spoiled when it comes to playing in an electric atmosphere, big matchups, big games."

The Sugar Bowl will mark Georgia's 63rd Bowl appearance and their all-time bowl record is 38-21-3. Apart from being second in the nation in terms of Bowl game appearances, the football program also holds the longest streak for consecutively making 28 Bowl games.
