What bowl game does Oregon play in? Looking at Ducks' postseason matchup
The Oregon Ducks swept through the regular season undefeated, claiming the No. 1 seed for the upcoming College Football Playoff. This included notable wins against then-No. 2 Ohio State and then-No. 20 Illinois. Moreover, they defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the Big Ten champions.
Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback Dillon Gabriel has been their shining armor. He has completed 297 of 406 passes (73.2%) for 3,558 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions.
What bowl game does Oregon play in?
Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks will face the winner of the College Football Playoff first-round game between No. 8 Ohio State and No. 9 Tennessee in this year's Rose Bowl. The Ducks helped themselves to a first-round bye after defeating Penn State in the Big Ten title game.
The Rose Bowl game will be played on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in Pasadena. The kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
"What an opportunity for us," Lanning said. "I'm excited to get the opportunity to compete in the Rose Bowl. Regardless, the end-all goal, you're going to get to play some unbelievable teams in that process. I'm excited that we get to go play against great competition. That's what playoff moments are about."
The Ducks have played 37 bowl games, emerging victorious in 17 of them. Last season, they played against the No. 18 Liberty Flames in the Fiesta Bowl. Under Dan Lanning, the Ducks are yet to taste a loss in bowl games (3-0).
If Oregon wins the quarterfinals (Rose Bowl), it will advance to the semifinals at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. Here, it will face the winner of the Peach Bowl matchup between No. 4 Arizona State and the winner of No. 5 Texas vs. No. 12 Clemson.
The final step in Oregon’s path is the College Football Playoff national championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ducks would face the winner of the Cotton Bowl semifinal, likely No. 2 Georgia, though other contenders such as No. 3 Boise State or an upset team could emerge.
