"What a great guy" - Coach Prime's ex-wife Pilar Sanders drops eye-catching remark as son Shedeur Sanders wins Offensive Player of the Week
The Colorado Buffaloes, led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders, overcame a 13-0 first-quarter deficit in the game against Texas Tech to defeat the Red Raiders 41-27 in Week 11.
The thrilling win in Lubbock moved them to second with a 7-2 overall record (5-1 Big 12) and put them in charge of their own destiny regarding the conference championship game.
Sanders went 30-of-43 for 291 yards, resulting in three touchdowns, while adding a rushing touchdown to complete the comeback win. For his efforts, the Buffs quarterback was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Colorado's fourth player to achieve the feat this season.
Off the gridiron, Shedeur's mother, the ever-supportive Pilar Sanders, posted a graphic of her son's award on Instagram. She captioned the post:
"What a great guy! Truly LEGENDARY! 🤣 Colorado winning vs Texas Tech! Let the band play 🎶🎶🎶 #proudmom #footballmom #shedeursanders #shedeur4heisman #wellrounded #gobuffs #legendary," Pilar wrote.
Shedeur Sanders encapsulates the 'new Colorado'
After his team faded last season, Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders promised that he would hire professionals with NFL experience to guide his team. He did just that, hiring new defensive coordinator Robert Livingston and senior quality control analyst Warren Sapp to impart their skills on the team.
The Buffs' defense has been one of its strongest departments while the improved offensive line has also protected Shedeur Sanders better. This is after he was the most sacked quarterback in the FBS last season (52 sacks).
During his Texas Tech postgame news conference, Shedeur revealed how this year's Colorado team deals with adversity.
"We thrive on that. We've always been in adverse situations," Shedeur Sanders said. "Everywhere we go, some of the typing and the pens and the paperwork puts us in an adverse situation. It's not one time that I'm not getting a reminder on my phone that someone is putting us in adversity. These young men, they were bred for this man! I'm proud of them, I really am, for what they're doing."
Shedeur Sanders ranks favorably in most categories against quarterbacks in the FBS. He is top three in passing touchdowns (24) and completion percentage (72.9%) and is top 10 in passing yards (2,882). It shows that the new Colorado Buffaloes has both substance and style as opposed to last year's team.
