What happened to Andrew Gentry? Exploring Michigan's replacement Tackle's injury ahead of Oregon game
The Michigan Wolverines have been doing well this season but the program endured a setback as starting right tackle Andrew Gentry suffered a season-ending knee injury. He was projected to be a starter before the season but instead was the first offensive lineman off the bench.
His name popped up on the Week 10 injury report as out for the season ahead of their game against the Oregon Ducks. That is going to be a massive blow for the Michigan Wolverines as he was starting for an injured Evan Link.
However, it is expected that Link will be able to suit up and slide back into the right tackle position.
This is the second time in his collegiate career that Gentry has suffered a season-ending injury.
Can the Michigan Wolverines win in Week 10 against the Oregon Ducks without Andrew Gentry?
The Michigan Wolverines are getting ready to host the top-ranked Oregon Ducks later this afternoon and are 14.5-point home underdogs. Andrew Gentry's absence is not going to affect the Wolverines' chances of winning this game significantly as the Ducks are simply the better overall team.
That is not to downplay the impact of the injury to Gentry as losing a significant offensive lineman is certainly not ideal. However, it is not likely to be the difference between the two teams in this game. The Wolverines have allowed 13 total sacks through eight games, so they have done an excellent job at keeping the quarterback upright.
However, they have not faced a defensive presence quite at the level of the Oregon Ducks this season.
The Ducks have the 10th-best scoring defense at 15.6 points per game and have allowed just nine total points in their last two games against the Illinois Fighting Illini and Purdue Boilermakers.
The Wolverines have a lot of injuries and this is certainly going to be a litmus test for the program. They are looking to officially become bowl-eligible with a victory in any of the final four games in the regular season.
