What happened to DJ Lagway? Exploring Flordia QB being carted off the field against Georgia

The Florida Gators have been dealing with some injuries this season and are entering the halftime break with a 13-6 lead against the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in SEC action. However, they are going to be without starting quarterback DJ Lagway, who was carted off the field with a hamstring injury in the second quarter.

With 5:01 remaining in the first half, DJ Lagway was running a designed play, running the ball for three yards before going down at the 28-yard line. He immediately grabbed his left leg and was unable to get up, seemingly slipping on the turf at EverBank Stadium. He was then carted off the field.

Before sustaining the injury, Lagway looked impressive, completing 2 of 6 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, along with four rushing attempts for 18 yards (4.5 yards per carry).

The extent of the injury has not been disclosed at the time of this writing.

What does DJ Lagway's hamstring injury mean for the Florida Gators going forward?

Hamstring injuries can be tricky to overcome, as they often linger and continue to pop up. DJ Lagway was playing because starting quarterback Graham Mertz suffered a torn ACL earlier this season.

If Lagway is forced to miss more than just this game, this would be an interesting dilemma for coach Billy Napier. Freshman quarterback Aidan Warner has limited game experience, having completed just 2 of 3 passes for 30 yards heading into this Week 10 game.

Expect the Florida Gators to rely heavily on their running game, which is evident as Aidan Warner has not been asked to do too much in the final 5:08 of the first half before heading back to the locker room for the halftime break. While the quarterback depth is tested, Warner has seen second-team reps during practice due to Mertz's injury, putting him in a good position to step up and surprise fans.
