Impact on Wisconsin's offense: How Tyler Van Dyke's absence affects the team
With Van Dyke leaving the game, Wisconsin turned to its backup quarterback to continue the game. The backup is Braedyn Locke, a redshirt sophomore who started three games for the Badgers last year. He completed 50% of his passes for 777 yards and 5 touchdowns.
While Locke is a decent replacement, Wisconsin's offense will not be the same without Van Dyke. He played 11 games last season and threw for 2,703 yards.
An update on Tyler Van Dyke’s injury
Tyler Van Dyke suffered a leg injury in the Wisconsin Badgers’ Week 3 game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The coaching staff eventually revealed that the injury was a torn ACL. Unfortunately for Van Dyke, the injury ends his season and he underwent surgery on September 23.
Head coach Luke Fickell expressed hope that Van Dyke would be back with the team this season. He said:
“We love Tyler and we love what he’s done. And hopefully if there’s an opportunity that he would come back, he would have that chance and we’ll put a plan in place for that.”
Van Dyke is eligible medically redshirt this season to give him another year of eligibility. If he does, it sounds like the Badgers would be happy to have him back. He completed 43 of 68 passes, and threw for 422 yards and one touchdown in three games this season.
