When is the Heisman ceremony 2024? Day, date & time, finalists, winning odds and more
The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced this weekend. This year's finalists are quarterback Dillon Gabriel, Cam Ward, running back Ashton Jeanty, and Cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. All four players have made strong cases for the award. The announcement ceremony will take place on Dec. 14.
The Heisman Trophy X/Twitter account revealed the finalists on Dec. 9. The winner will be announced on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ESPN.
A quarterback has won the award over the last three years. Last season, former LSU Tigers and current NFL Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels won the trophy.
Ward led the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes (10-2, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) to almost get into the College Football Playoffs. He ended the regular season with 293 completed passes for 4,123 yards and 36 touchdowns. Gabriel has completed 297 passes for 3,558 yards and 28 touchdowns. Although Ward may have outperformed him, Gabriel led the No. 1 Oregon Ducks (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten) to win the Big Ten Championship and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs.
Although a quarterback has won the award for the last three years, Hunter and Jeanty can break the streak.
Travis Hunter & Ashton Jeanty have made good cases to win the Heisman Trophy
Jeanty emerged as one of the key factors in the No. 9 Boise State Broncos (12-1, 7-0 Mountain West) success this season. He has 344 carries for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns. The running back had 32 carries for 209 yards and one touchdown in the Broncos' 21-7 win over the No. 24 UNLV Rebels (10-3, 6-1 Mountain West) in the Mountain West Championship on Dec. 6.
Hunter has helped lead the No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes (9-3, 7-2 Big 12) to their best season since 2016. He ended the regular season as the leading receiver for the team with 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns. On defense, Hunter showed he's a threat in the cornerback position, achieving 31 tackles, four interceptions, and one forced fumble. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has spoken openly about how Hunter should be awarded because he has performed well in both positions.
Current favorite to win the Heisman Trophy
DraftKings has Hunter as a -2000 favorite to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. The cornerback/wide receiver has remained a betting odds favorite to win the award since his team's 41-27 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders (8-4, 6-3 Big 12) in Week 11 on Nov. 9.
Although the odds can change in favor of other candidates, Hunter seems likely to win the prestigious trophy to conclude his college career.
