Nebraska vs Purdue game preview
Matt Rhule's Cornhuskers enter this game coming off last week's loss against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Meanwhile, Purdue has to defend its home and a win against Huskers should bring back the energy lost after last week's loss against Oregon State.
For the Cornhuskers, the running game has been an issue with the team not having a single rusher with 100 yards. Purdue's defensive lines have holes for Dante Dowdell and Rahmir Johnson to take advantage of. Interestingly, Purdue allows 269 rushing yards per game, the third-most in the nation.
Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola likes to get the ball to Isaiah Neyor or Jaylen Lloyd for big plays. However, with Purdue's top cornerback, Nyland Green, returning, it'll be a challenge.
For the Boilermakers, their offense depends a lot on the production of running back Devin Mockobee, who'll have to find his way through Nebraska's secondary.
“I think it’ll be another battle," Rhule said on Monday before leaving for Indiana. "I hope we play well on the road. There’s nothing quite like getting in a hotel and it just being us.
"It’s a hostile territory. The great thing about us is that we know our fans will travel. It’s not like going somewhere and you don’t see any red. We’ll certainly have our fans there. I hope our guys are looking forward to it."
In all likelihood, the contest should go the Cornhuskers' way. Their run game will need to come through. However, if Purdue can get effective stops and bring their A-game running, we might witness another setback for the Huskers.
