Why did Kool-Aid McKinstry's draft stock fall in 2024 NFL Draft? Outlining potential reasons for Alabama CB's slide

The 2024 NFL draft had its first round last night and Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry did not get selected. This was surprising considering that he had a strong season as he finished with 32 total tackles and seven pass deflections while playing well in the cornerback slot.

Let's take a closer look at some possible reasons why Kool-Aid McKinstry is still waiting for his name to get called.

One big reason could be that he was not able to practice at the NFL Combine due to a Jones fracture. This type of fracture is a break of the bone on the pinky-toe. These fractures are more common from increased training or running on uneven surfaces.

McKinstry is not going to be waiting for too long once the second round begins. One team that may fancy him could be the Buffalo Bills, who hold the first pick in the second round after trading back twice last night.

However, Iowa's Cooper DeJean is still available so that could affect McKinstry's chances. Another landing spot could be the Arizona Cardinals, who have the third pick in the second round. They addressed their wide receiver need with Marvin Harrison Jr. as well as their edge pressure need in Darius Robinson, so their next-biggest requirement would be the cornerback position.

With a second-round selection, Kool-Aid McKinstry could justify being one of the best cornerbacks in this draft class and it will be interesting to see how he slots into the system employed by his would-be NFL team.
