Why was Sacovie White arrested? All we know about Georgia WR’s recent charges
Freshman wide receiver Sacovie White of the Georgia Bulldogs was arrested early Saturday morning by Athens Clarke Police. He was arrested at 3:04 a.m. on charges of reckless driving and driving down a one-way street, per the Athens-Clarke County jail log. He was released exactly an hour later on a $26 bond.
There were reportedly no signs of alcohol or drugs at the scene and there have not been any further details about the situation. The Georgia Bulldogs football program has not released a statement at the time of publication.
Sacovie White's role with Georgia Bulldogs
Sacovie White is a talented prospect, as 247 Sports has him as a three-star prospect out of Cartersville, Georgia. However, he is a true freshman so he has not played in any official game action.
The only on-field situation fans could see of Sacovie White was during the program's spring game, where he had a pair of catches for 29 yards.
Georgia players arrested with driving-related charges
Sacovie White is not the only player to have a driving-related arrest from the Bulldogs this year. Transfer running back Trevor Etienne was arrested in March on four charges. In that situation, Coach Kirby Smart made the following comments:
"I can only speak for my university, but I think we do it better than anybody in the country in terms of education, speakers. To your point about NIL, we've done studies and looked, we have more kids with vehicles now than we probably ever have.
"The number of players with vehicles is higher, but that's not any excuse for the ability to speed, it just means we have more opportunities to have traffic citations, which we don't want." (h/t Dawg Nation)
Last year, five different people connected with the program were arrested on driving-related charges.
Offensive lineman Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy also died in a car crash in January 2023. Neither White nor Etienne were members of the Georgia Bulldogs at the time.
