Why was Traeshon Holden ejected? Oregon WR's spitting incident on the field explored

In one of the biggest games of the college football calendar, Oregon Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden was ejected against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first half. This is a massive situation, as a star player in one of the biggest games of the college football slate will not be playing for the remainder of the game.

But what exactly happened? Let's take a look at the situation leading to the ejection.

Why was Traeshon Holden ejected?

When not getting the ball against Buckeyes cornerback Davison Igbinosun, the two were talking trash to one another. However, things escalated as Traeshon Holden appeared to have spit on Igbinosun while running back toward his team's huddle.

The referees ejected Traeshon Holden from the game after the incident, leaving the Oregon Ducks without arguably their best wide receiver. Holden recorded a single catch for 32 yards before being ejected from the game.

This will force the Oregon Ducks to change their game plan as Dillon Gabriel has lost one of the top receivers for the team. Entering this game, Holden had 19 receptions for 274 yards (14.4 yards per catch) with three touchdowns so he is a critical piece of the offense.

CFB world unhappy with Traeshon Holden's behavior

As soon as the incident happened, fans were quick to jump in with their reaction. Clearly, they were unhappy with his absurd behavior. Here's what fans said:

"I’m done man, just a stupid fucking move," said a fan.
"Getting ejected for Hawk Tuah is wild," said another hilarious fan.
"Trash ass behavior fr," mentioned another fan.

Another fan wanted him put of the team as soon as possible.

"Kick that bum off the team for that," he said.

Few fans were not having it at all. They instantly called out this move.

"As he should. We all hate Ohio state, but that’s disgusting," said a viewer.

The fifth-year wide receiver could face severe penalties if he repeats this kind of behavior in upcoming games. Oregon Ducks next meet Purdue on Friday night for the Week 8 matchup at Ross–Ade Stadium (October 18).
