"Would cost the Cowboys more than $100M": NFL Insider gives a dose of reality to Jerry Jones amid reports of Shedeur Sanders joining the team

NFL Insider Dan Graziano doesn't buy the idea that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys should draft Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The Cowboys have won three games heading into Week 11 of the season and are on the verge of missing the playoffs.

ESPN broadcaster Stephen A. Smith has floated the idea that the team should tank the rest of the season to draft Sanders.

Graziano explained Tuesday morning on "Get Up" why that would not be a great move for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

Before the season started, Jones signed Cowboys starting quarterback prescott-signs-big-contract-dallas-cowboys" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">Dak Prescott to a four-year $240 million extension. Graziano explained that drafting Shedeur Sanders and trading Prescott would be a bad financial decision for Jones.

"They signed Dak Prescott to a massive contract extension. Historic. Largest of all time for a quarterback or any player in the NFL. So, if you bring in Sheduer Sanders, you going to have to do something with Dak Prescott," Graziano said.
"Trading Dak Prescott would cost the Cowboys more than a $100 million in dead money on next year's cap, and you know, if you thought Jerry Jones was crying poor about the cap this year, wait till he has a 103 million dead sitting for Dak Prescott."

Prescott played eight games before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9 on Nov. 3 in a 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons (6-4). The Cowboys had Cooper Rush play starting quarterback in the team's 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10 on Nov. 10.

Domonique Foxworth on Jerry Jones hiring Shedeur Sanders' dad Deion to coach the Dallas Cowboys

"Get Up" TV anchor Mike Greenberg responded to Graziano's comments by asking co-host Domonique Foxworth if Jerry Jones should hire Shedeur Sanders, father and former Cowboys star Deion Sanders as the new coach.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has faced criticism from fans and NFL commentators, who believe Jones should replace him.

Foxworth thinks "Coach Prime" could be a good hire, but improving the team will be difficult.

"I mean, sure. It seems like Deion Sanders is very interesting and exciting, which seems like that is more important to Jerry Jones than anything else," said Foxworth.
"It seems that he's gotten Colorado turned around pretty quickly, so that suggests that he has some coaching ability to do at multiple different places. I'm sure it's a job he can do. I'm not sure this is a job anyone can succeed at, given the current state of the situation they are in."

Foxworth adds that he's unsure if other coaches like Bill Belichick can turn the Cowboys around from how they are currently operating.

Deion and Shedeur Sanders are both still focused on finishing the Buffaloes season strong. Colorado (7-2, 5-1 Big 12) will face the Utah Utes (4-5, 1-5) at home in Week 12 on Saturday as they look to get their eighth win.
