"Would have lit they a** up": Shannon Sharpe lashes out at Kirk Herbstreit after he accuses First Take of trying to get Ryan Day fired

The national discussion surrounding Ryan Day and Ohio State has been very intriguing and there seems to be a bit of ESPN infighting going on within the network.

Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit discussed how "First Take" thought Ohio State Buckeyes coach Ryan Day would be fired, but the Buckeyes won the first round of the College Football Playoff at home against the Tennessee Volunteers.

While on Monday's edition of "First Take," Stephen A. Smith took exception with their comments but it was co-host and Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe who put it bluntly that he was not happy but will maintain the peace right now.

"I'm going to be a good teammate, I'm going to let it slide. Everybody's at ESPN. Because if you have not taken the route you taken, I would have lit they a** up. I'm going to let it slide... If we're going to work for the same network, don't do that. Kirk, Chris Fowler, I promise you... ESPN ain't got enough bosses to keep me off y'all for what I'm going to say."

Shannon Sharpe left FOX Sports to join ESPN in late 2023 and has been a regular host on "First Take" since the football season began.

Will Ryan Day and Ohio State defeat Oregon in the CFP Quarterfinals?

The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oregon Ducks are facing off against one another in the Rose Bowl for the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals. The Buckeyes and Ducks played during the regular season and it came down to quarterback Will Howard not being able to spike the football in time for Ohio State to attempt a game-winning field goal.

Oregon has shown the ability to dominate as the only undefeated program remaining. However, Ohio State is currently listed as a 2.5-point favorite for this game and it will be intriguing to see how they do after seeing each other earlier this year.

Ohio State played in the first round of the College Football Playoff with a 42-17 win at home over the Tennessee Volunteers and looked incredibly sharp. Ohio State has a great shot of winning this game and getting to the CFP Semifinals, bolstering the job security of Ryan Day.
