"Wouldn't post the N-word like that": Deion Sanders Jr. sets the record straight on Michael Irvin's statement about Coach Prime
College Football analyst Michael Irvin sparked some controversy on Instagram when he appeared to use a racial slur while praising Deion Sanders and his Colorado team. However, Coach Prime's eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., set the record straight about Irvin's comments, clearing the air that there were no offensive insults.
On Monday, Sanders shared a video clip of Irvin on Instagram, referencing Colorado's win against Utah over the weekend. The former NFL wideout compared a touchdown from the game to one Sanders had scored during their time as teammates with the Dallas Cowboys. Although many believed that Irvin used a racial slur in the video, Sanders Jr. jumped in to diffuse the situation.
"He said “make a block”… I wouldn’t post the n word wide open like that on his page," Sanders Jr. commented.
The No. 16 Colorado Buffaloes (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) have been one of the most improved teams this season. They finished last season with a dismal 4-8 record but now stand a chance at making it to the 12-team College Football Playoff.
This is Sanders' second season in charge of Colorado, and he has insisted that he plans to honor his five-year deal with the team. However, Coach Prime appears to be already garnering interest from other teams, including the NFL.
Michael Irvin suggests Deion Sanders could return to Dallas Cowboys to take up coaching gig
On Saturday, Michael Irvin said he would recommend Deion Sanders to Jerry Jones as Dallas’ next coach.
"Everybody loves Mike [Tyson], but everybody loves and respects Jake [Paul] also for what he's done here," Irvin said during Netflix's broadcast of the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul fight.
"To have an ability to not go the normal route and still end up right here. You give him respect. I give him respect like I give my great guy Deion Sanders, who didn't go the normal route. Who I'm gonna be in Jerry's ear about later. That's just something else we're talking about."
The Cowboys have had a torrid season in the NFL so far. They are third in the NFC North with a 3-6 record. Since Mike McCarthy might be on thin ice this season, Jones might look for a change in his team's coach.
Sanders, who is doing a fine job at Colorado, appears to be in the hat for an NFL gig next season.
