"You'll see a lot of Arch Manning": Georgia Insider drops eye-catching remark on Texas QB situation amid Quinn Ewers' struggles
Texas quarterback Arch Manning has been in the spotlight ahead of the Longhorns' Southeastern Conference title game against No. 5 Georgia on Saturday. Manning, who has served as Quinn Ewers' backup this season, is in contention to get several reps against the Bulldogs since Ewers has struggled in some key moments for Texas.
Georgia football insider Rusty Mansell appeared on Wednesday's episode of the "Crain and Company" podcast and gave his two cents on Texas' quarterback situation for the SEC championship game. [Timestamp: 3:53]
"I'll tell you this, and I'm very confident in this," Mansell said. "You're gonna see a lot of Arch Manning. You're gonna see a lot of the run game, especially in the red zone."
Mansell also touched upon Ewers' struggles and how No. 2 Texas could use Manning more efficiently on the gridiron.
"Quinn had some turnovers last week against Texas A&M in the red zone. If I'm a Texas man and we get to 20 (yard zone), you're gonna see Arch Manning. I'm gonna bring his legs and I'm gonna bring that run game," Mansell said.
Mansell concluded by saying that Georgia has failed to deal with the dual-threat quarterbacks that have come up against the Bulldogs' defense this season.
Arch Manning has been solid when called upon by Texas this season
Manning has done a fine job as Ewers' backup this season. The signal-caller has completed 61 of 90 passes for 939 yards and nine touchdowns, with two interceptions. He has also contributed 95 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries.
Manning also started two games for the Longhorns when Ewers was out with an abdominal injury and led Texas to two wins.
In Texas' final regular-season game against Texas A&M in Week 14, Manning was brought on for his running ability. He rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown on three carries to help the Longhorns to a 17-7 victory.
Now, it will be interesting to see if Texas (11-1, 7-1 SEC) allows Manning to stretch his legs against Georgia (10-2, 6-2 SEC) in the SEC title game.
