Oregon HC Dan Lanning reveals thought process behind viral jab at Deion Sanders' Colorado in 2023
The Oregon-Colorado matchup was one of the most watched games of the 2023 college football season, especially because of Dan Lanning's viral pregame speech.
During an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, Lanning talked about the thought process behind the popular speech:
"I think every week's different. And as a coach, your job's always to motivate your team and and I feel like I knew our team. I felt I knew how they felt in that moment.
You know, as a fan, you might get to see a window view, every once in a while, I get to be in the house, and that's something I've kind of said before, is, you know, I was in the house, I knew how the guys felt that week, and they want to go out there and perform."
"Yeah, we certainly, we certainly talked to the team every single game, and the message is different. Sometimes you got to have a little bit of juice, sometimes you don't." (15:50)
The Buffaloes were on an electrifying winning streak with three back-to-back victories against teams like Nebraska, TCU and Colorado State.
However, their run was put to rest by a disappointing 42-6 matchup in Week 3 where they played against Dan Lanning's team.

CFB analyst expresses confidence in Dan Lanning's Oregon
Dan Lanning is among the most hyped-up coaches in the nation currently. Following his electrifying 12-2 run in 2023, the Oregon head coach will be facing the spotlight as they gear up to compete in the Big Ten conference for the first time.
Lanning's coaching experience speaks for itself; he's worked with some of the best programs in the country, like Alabama and Georgia. He was named the Oregon head coach at the age of 37.
During an episode of Late Kick with Josh Pate, the college football analyst spoke about Oregon's winning momentum and predicted a successful run in the 2024 season:
"I think a lot of the Big Ten, if they're smart enough, should be fairly terrified with what Oregon's doing right now, but they don't want to be," Pate said.
"...those foolish enough to think Dan Lanning, all of two years in, has taught you everything you need to know about what he and Oregon will be, as both the head coach and a program moving forward."
Fans would be interested to see how Oregon performs during their first season playing in the Big Ten conference besides talent powerhouses like Ohio State and Michigan.
