QB Dylan Lonergan Transfer Portal: 3 landing spots
Even Alabama suffers transfer portal losses and Dylan Lonergan is proof. The Tide will soon have to move on from QB Jalen Milroe, but redshirt freshman Lonergan won't be part of the puzzle. The four-star recruit from Georgia has entered the transfer portal, per 247Sports' report.
On the field, Lonergan has completed 7 of 8 passes for 35 yards and rushed twice for 21 yards in two games in 2023 and 2024. But the Georgia recruit is a significant athlete who has all the tools for college stardom. Here are three schools that figure to be involved in Lonergan's re-recruitment in the portal.
Dylan Lonergan: 3 transfer portal landing spots
3. Auburn
Now this would be an epic move. Hugh Freeze needs a big season coming off 6-7 and 5-7 seasons and with Payton Thorne finishing up his eligibility, Lonergan could be the next guy. He's athletic enough to be capable within the dual-threat parts of the Auburn attack but would bring better arm talent to the position.
Again, Freeze is going to be loading for bear in recruiting. His job is basically on the line. Auburn has been seriously involved with several QBs, including Stanford QB Ashton Daniels. But should things get sideways there, Lonergan could be an intriguing option for the Tigers.
2. Vanderbilt
Clark Lea and Diego Pavia astonished college football this year. It's impressive to ponder what the creative Vandy boss could do with an even more electric QB behind center. Pavia was something of a game manager, but Lonergan would have a little more big-play ability.
Meanwhile, Pavia may well exploit his stardom for his own NIL payday. Even if not, he's got a maximum of one year left and Lonergan has three years of eligibility. This is a situation that could prove interesting. After all, Lonergan saw Vandy's magic firsthand when the Commodores shocked the Tide this fall.
1. Stanford
Of the schools other than Alabama, Lonergan's most serious suitor in his original recruitment was Stanford. The Cardinal just lost starter Ashton Daniels to the portal and could use a QB splash. Troy Taylor is coming off a tough 3-9 season and needs to turn around his luck or he'll be job hunting soon.
Meanwhile, Lonergan could get a fresh start across the country at a school that would be quite ready to make him QB1. The opportunity to attend a top academic school, have the starting job all but guaranteed, and still play in a Power Four conference sounds like it checks enough boxes to be intriguing for Lonergan.
