Ric'Darious Farmer Transfer Portal: Forecasting portal landing spots
West Virginia freshman receiver Ric'Darious "Day Day" Farmer has entered the transfer portal. The four-star recruit showed flashes of potential in his season in Morgantown, but he's apparently decided to move on.
Farmer had only six catches for 54 yards on the season, but he did catch a pair of passes in each of WVU's last two games. He also rushed twice and returned a kickoff, but despite playing in 11 games, he saw minimal touches on the season. WVU was his third college commitment, so predictably, there are a ton of solid possibilities for Farmer's next spot via the portal.
Ric'Darious Farmer Transfer Portal: Potential landing spots
4. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
Western Kentucky has passed for over 3,700 yards in each of the past four seasons. The Hilltoppers have had a fair share of major conference talents come to town over the years. Farmer was recruited by WKU late in his original recruiting process. It's an easy spot for him to see immediate playing time and likely a ton of touches. The Hilltoppers could be a fun sleeper for Farmer.
3. Virginia Tech Hokies
Tech passed for just 192.8 yards per game last year, but the lack of an explosive playmaker on the edge was a significant part of those issues. Tech also recruited Farmer late in the recruiting process. For a West Virginia product, it's not a terribly long trip to Virginia Tech. Farmer would again have a strong possibility of early and frequent snaps and could fare well with the Hokies.
2. Pittsburgh Panthers
The Panthers were actually Farmer's original college destination. While he decommitted from Pitt, he might want to take a second look. Pittsburgh flirted with CFP contention in 2024 before falling back. But the Panthers were an exciting and efficient team, and their top wide receiver and top tight end were both seniors.
Farmer would again be within the same general area of the country, would be in a familiar conference, and could play for some of the same coaches who recruited him to Pitt the first time around. Farmer could well choose to end up at Pitt.
1. UCF Knights
UCF was actually Farmer's second college choice. The Knights have ended their era with Gus Malzahn, but new UCF coach Scott Frost might well like to sign Farmer. UCF went 4-8 despite outscoring opponents in 2024. The Knights did feature seniors as four of their top five receivers.
Farmer might elect to get away from home and have a fresh start. The Knights will need all the help they can get and in a hurry. Farmer might well end up headed for the sunny climate of UCF.
