Rowdy Beers transfer portal: Top 3 landing spots for FIU player ft. Colorado State
Rowdy Beers is in the transfer portal. A perennial all-name team selection, Beers joins his brother, Rocky, in the portal from FIU. That said, Rocky played in 2024, while Rowdy spent the season away from football, having declared an intention to pursue a career as a firefighter rather than a football player. Presumably, he's changed his mind.
Both of the Beers boys committed to FIU and Rocky saw significant action at tight end. Rowdy played a handful of snaps in two games in 2023, but left the team after spring practice in 2024. But with his transfer portal announcement, Rowdy is back.
He's a redshirt freshman, albeit a very lightly recruited one. The most obvious door is the one his brother has chosen, but here are three schools that might take a shot at Rowdy Beers.
Rowdy Beers transfer portal: 3 potential landing spots
3. Missouri Western State
One of the three schools that was reported to have offered Beers a scholarship out of high school, Missouri Western could be interested in him again. The 4-7 Griffons threw and ran the ball fairly efficiently, so a 6-foot-5 tight end who could block and receive could come in handy for the school.
Meanwhile, if Beers is going to get back into college football, he'd presumably like to see the field more than he did at FIU. Heading down a classification to a smaller school is probably the easiest way to make that happen.
2. Northern Colorado
Along the same line of thought, the Northern Colorado Bears were another team that recruited Beers significantly out of Valor Christian High in Littleton, Colorado. Moreover, the Bears could use Beers, having gone 1-11 in 2024. UNC averaged a meager 11.3 points per game for the season.
Again, if Beers is going to see the field, he's probably going to have to earn his stripes at a lower classification. A 1-11 team can doubtlessly use all the help it can get, and if Beers wants to get back to major college football, a season on tape is probably the most productive path.
1. Colorado State
The obvious possibility here is that Beers follows his brother, who committed to Colorado State. Rocky caught 18 passes in 2023 for FIU, and has moved closer to home to play for the Rams. Colorado State's top two receiving tight ends were both seniors. And yes, both Rocky and Rowdy play the tight end position.
The 8-4 Rams gave Rocky a path closer to home in Group of Five football. Rowdy might well have to walk-on to get a spot with the Rams. But in the interests of brotherly harmony, it's a possibility worth considering.
