Xavier Lucas Transfer Portal: Exploring Top 5 landing spots for Wisconsin DB ft. Miami
Wisconsin Badgers' defensive back Xavier Lucas has entered the transfer portal. According to 247 Sports, the Fort Lauderdale native was a 4-star recruit and made an impact in Madison.
He finished 2024 with 18 tackles, one sack and one interception in his freshman year. After playing safety in high school, he was deployed as a cornerback for the Badgers.
Lucas' departure leaves a huge void in the Wisconsin defense. The Badgers have only six cornerbacks on the roster for 2025, so they could be aggressively looking for a cornerback in the portal.
Xavier Lucas has three years of eligibility left. These five teams could be a good fit for the 2025 season.
5 landing spots for Wisconsin DB Xavier Lucas
#5. Oregon Ducks
A move to the Ducks only makes sense if Xavier Lucas moves back to safety. Oregon has depth at cornerback, but there aren't many players at the safety positions.
Sophomore Peyton Woodyard and seventh-year senior Kobe Savage would be the starters at this point. If Lucas decides he wants to play safety, he could battle for playing time in this side touted as one of the favorites for the national championship.
#4. Ole Miss Rebels
With cornerbacks Jadon Canady and AJ Brown leaving Oxford via the transfer portal, there is very little depth in the secondary for Ole Miss. Their entire starting secondary from Week 1 are seniors, so spots were going to be vacated anyway.
Cornerbacks Jaylon Braxton and Antonio Kite have committed already to Ole Miss. With such limited options, Xavier Lucas could be a top contender for a starting position. Lucas’ ability to play cornerback or safety should also be considered favorable with such little depth.
#3. LSU Tigers
With 16 players entering the transfer portal, the Tigers are among the teams experiencing a massive overhaul. Six defensive backs are transferring including starting safety Sage Ryan. Cornerback Zy Alexander is leaving after his senior season.
Notable transfers Mansoor Delane and Ja’Keem Jackson landed in Baton Rouge to shore up the secondary. Yet the team needs depth and Lucas’ versatility could open a spot for him in a program known for its vaunted secondary.
#2. Texas Longhorns
Thorpe Award winner Jahdae Barron is a senior, as is Gavin Holmes. Jay’Vion Cole entered the transfer portal. The Longhorns have little depth and experience at cornerback.
Xavier Lucas is good enough to start opposite Malik Muhammad. Texas hasn’t made any moves in the secondary during the transfer portal, so the opportunity is still there. This could be a perfect moment for both sides.
#1. Miami Hurricanes
If the Hurricanes had better defense, they would probably be in the College Football Playoffs. Instead, they are heading to the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Xavier Lucas would make perfect sense in Miami.
The defensive back has played at both cornerback and safety before and could help strengthen a secondary that allowed 216.3 passing yards per game.
Miami has already landed Jacksonville State safety Zechariah Poyser in the portal and has four 4-star commits in the secondary. However, Lucas has already shown he can play well at the collegiate level.
