SEC Power Rankings after Week 10: Georgia dominates the pack while Texas A&M stumbles

The SEC saw a couple of its top teams shore up their CFP situations, while one potential pick, Texas A&M, took a huge tumble. Heading out of Week 10, here's where the squads of the SEC stack up.

16. Mississippi State (2-7)

State did finally get a win, but did so over a terrible UMass team. There's no reason to jump them out of the league's cellar on this one.

15. Kentucky (3-6)

Kentucky gave Tennessee a surprising battle, but the upside is limited. Kentucky's offense is awful, and their defense is significantly banged up. The Wildcats are going to see their bowl appearance streak snapped at eight years.

14. Auburn (3-6)

Given a chance to escape the lower echelons of the SEC, Auburn didn't do anything meaningful to help their cause in a 17-7 loss to Vandy. The Tigers are pretty much consigned to this spot, barring something unexpected.

13. Florida (4-4)

The Gators not only lost to Georgia, but they apparently lost QB DJ Lagway for a period of time. Florida's chances for any meaningful November success are gone without Lagway, who is inexperienced but capable of big plays.

12. Oklahoma (5-4)

The Sooners did beat FCS Maine, but there's not reason for much optimism heading forward. ESPN gives Oklahoma nearly a 2-to-1 shot at picking up a sixth win, but that might be overly optimistic given the struggles of this offense.

11. Arkansas (5-4)

This seemed like a game the Hogs might win, but Ole Miss had absolutely no trouble dispatching them with ease. Arkansas is still probably going to reach a bowl, which has been a solid return for an underrated team. But they do fall a spot this week.

10. Missouri (6-2)

The Tigers were inactive, but their level of play and their impressive record don't necessarily match up. This looks like a team that's going to take a late-season slide.

9. Texas A&M (7-2)

Like Missouri, A&M could be a little bit softer than their record. Getting thumped by South Carolina was a bad look for sure. The Aggies will need to beat Texas to get back in the CFP conversation.

8. South Carolina (5-3)

The Gamecocks had an impressive win over A&M and jump up a spot this week. It's a tough schedule late for the Gamecocks, but they've earned this jump and look like an eight-win type of team.

7. Vanderbilt (6-3)

The top half of the SEC? Yeah, why not? The schedule will probably catch up with Vandy, but reaching a bowl and beating Alabama and Auburn in the same season are two major accomplishments here.

6. LSU (6-2)

The Tigers were off and didn't make any moves during their week down. Their CFP chance was essentially unchanged per ESPN, which jumped less than one percentage point to 21.9%.

5. Ole Miss (7-2)

The Rebels were in danger of being forgotten until their offense exploded against Arkansas. The good news is they're still in the CFP picture, but the bad news is their odds are just under 3-in-10 of earning a spot, per ESPN's FPI.

4. Alabama (6-2)

Alabama was off, but the falloff of Texas A&M did nothing to hurt the Tide. Their CFP shot went up slightly to 55.5%, a rise of just over 2%. The Tide are still likely to end up 10-2 and that's probably good enough to reach the playoff.

3. Tennessee (7-1)

Tennessee's 10-point win over Kentucky wasn't exceptionally impressive, but it didn't do anything to hurt the Vols either. UT has almost 3-to-1 odds to reach the Playoff at this point, and their game with Georgia is their best shot to wrap it up entirely.

2. Texas (7-1)

Texas continues to remain atop the league, boasting the best shot at winning the league and the second-best CFP situation, which leaves them as a virtual lock for the playoff field. The Longhorns are in a great position.

1. Georgia (7-1)

Georgia took care of business and now has a 92.3% shot at the playoff, per ESPN. The Georgia offense wasn't super sharp and that seems to be the only real issue with the UGA team. The Bulldogs will certainly be in the playoff.
