South Florida starting QB 2024: Who could start for Alex Golesh's team in Week 10?

South Florida quarterback Byrum Brown has been out for three games due to a left leg injury in the September 28th defeat 45-10 to the Tulane Green Wave.

Backup QB Bryce Archie, who's also a baseball player, was at the center of the huddle to cover for Brown. He started during the Memphis loss and a win against UAB. The starter for the Friday game against the Florida Atlantic Owls still remains a mystery.

Alex Golesh spoke about the situation, bringing more doubt than certainty in his answer:

“Bryce has taken a lot of the (first team) reps because you don't know Byrum was truly ready yet. He's moving around. Byrum, so much of his game is what he can do with his feet and create,” coach Alex Golesh said.
“And if he's not totally healthy, or at least close to -- I don't know if a quarterback is ever totally healthy as the season goes -- but as healthy enough to where he can do what he does, we wouldn't put him out there...
"I think we'll cross the bridge when we get there. You hope Bryce makes it really, really hard on me, right? And I think Byrum will be the first to tell you that that he wasn't operating at an elite clip when he got hurt either," he added.

Byrum Brown and Bryce Archie's numbers in 2024

Before getting injured, Brown had played five games and led the South Florida Bulls to a record of 2-5 with victories over Bethune-Cookman and Southern Miss.

He recorded 836 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also ran an impressive 269 yards and had three rushing touchdowns. His QBR is 54.1.

Archie, in turn, has played in six games but started in two of those (A defeat to Memphis and a win to UAB). In total, he has 533 passing yards, three touchdowns, and four interceptions.

Besides them, coach Alex Golesh also has redshirt freshman Israel Carter and redshirt sophomore Ryan Bolduc on the bench. More likely than not, the Bulls will go with Archie this week.
