Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian has called it quits on his marriage with Loreal Smith after four years. On Friday, the two announced they jointly filed for an amicable divorce, as commitments to their respective careers moved them to this decision.
As per reports, Steve and Loreal married in 2020. At the time, Steve was working as an offensive coordinator for Alabama.
Loreal was a collegiate track star and coach. In 2017, she said she is now a wardrobe stylist and philanthropist, as per her Instagram bio.
Notably, Loreal was known as the 'First Lady of Texas Football' when she was married to Steve. She often grabbed the limelight during games, with her stylish Texas-themed outfits.
In a statement on Friday, Loreal announced on Instagram that she and Steve were filing for divorce.
“After many heartfelt conversations, we have decided to amicably part ways and jointly file for divorce. We aim to remain the best of friends and are incredibly grateful for the love and support we have shared throughout our journey together,” Loreal's Instagram story read.
“Our commitments to our respective careers made it difficult to prioritize time for each other and this step will provide us with the necessary time and space professionally while continuing to support each other personally. While we appreciate all the love and encouragement we have received, we kindly ask for your understanding and privacy during this transition as we embark on this new chapter in our lives.”
Notably, this was Steve's second divorce.
Who was Steve Sarkisian's first wife?
Steve Sarkisian married his first wife, Stephanie, in 1997. At the time, he had joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League.
Steve and Stephanie share three children, two daughters and one son. Taylor, Ashley and Brady. Steve and Stephanie filed for divorce in April 2015.
Amid the recent personal issues in his life, Sarkisian will enter his fourth season at the helm at Texas in 2024. He has compiled a 25-14 record thus far.
