Texas Longhorns vs. Michigan Wolverines football history: H2H, records, and more ahead of Week 2 college football matchup

Under the leadership of new coach Sherrone Moore, the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines are ready to host the No. 3 Texas Longhorns of Steve Sarkisian on Saturday. The game will take place at the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

With both teams in different conferences, Michigan in the Big Ten and Texas in the SEC, they rarely set up a duel on each other's football schedule. Unless, of course, it's the playoffs.

Texas Longhorns vs. Michigan Wolverines head-to-head

Rarely? Scratch it. The only time these two football royalty teams have met on the gridiron was in the 2005 Rose Bowl. In that game, the Texas Longhorns came out on top in a nail-biter, 38-37, against the Michigan Wolverines.

So, when these two programs meet on Saturday, either the Wolverines will tie their head-to-head record or the Longhorns will retain their superiority.

Notable records between Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines

Both programs have a rich history to boast of. The Wolverines have won 12 national championships, having the most wins (1005) in college football history. Their overall record is second all-time (.734).

On the other hand, the Longhorns have won four national titles and are fifth in all-time wins (949). They come seventh all-time in overall record (.703). However, they (31-26-2) have a superior bowl record as compared to Michigan (23-29-0).

Who is favored in the Texas Longhorns vs. Michigan Wolverines?

As per the AP Polls, the Texas Longhorns are ranked much higher at No. 3 while the Wolverines are ranked No. 10. Moreover, the Wolverines have also seen a transition in leadership with Sherrone Moore succeeding Jim Harbaugh, who is now the head coach of LA Chargers.

On the other hand, the Longhorns are well due for a national championship title with Steve Sarkisian at the helm since 2021. Last year, he was the AP Big 12 Coach of the Year after leading the program to a 12-2 season and the Sugar Bowl, where they were outdueled by the Washington Huskies.

Both are coming off wins, but the Longhorns were spectacular in their 52-0 rout of the Colorado State Rams in their Week 1 matchup. Meanwhile, the Wolverines picked up a win over Fresno State 30-10.

Adding more to it, the Longhorns have a better and experienced quarterback at the center in Quinn Ewers, as compared to Davis Warren for Michigan.

Oddsmaker have the Texas Longhorns winning the game as (-7.5) favorites.
