Texas QB Quinn Ewers makes his thoughts about facing Michigan in Week 2 very clear
Quinn Ewers is among the most talked-about quarterbacks ahead of the 2024 college football season. Be it him being on the EA College Football 25 cover photo or the chatter around the competition between him and Arch Manning, Ewers remains the center of attention.
In 2020, before eventually flipping to Steve Sarkisian's Texas, Ewers made his initial commitment to Ryan Day's Ohio State.
However, he rejoined the Buckeyes and stayed with them for a year, which means the matchup against Michigan in Week 2 during the 2024 season means a little bit more.
During the 2024 SEC Media Days, Quinn Ewers talked about the matchups he's most looking forward to. The QB also weighed in on the excitement leading to the showdown against Michigan.
"You know, we're really just trying to take it one week at a time, and we're excited for all the games, especially the first ones in a long time. You know, whether that be no going up to Ann Arbor and you know, we're playing Georgia, playing, you know, the A&M ones coming back Arkansas. You know, just getting all those games back is gonna be, it's gonna be really fun for us."
Talking about the Michigan matchup where Ewers sneakily refused to take the team's name, he said:
"Going up to the Big House, yeah, I mean, it's going to be an awesome environment," Ewers said. "Place is going to be rocking. Especially all the hype since it's an early game. They're coming off a really big win, the national championship. Yeah, 'The Team Up North'."
Quinn Ewers on relationship with Arch Manning
Steve Sarkisian has developed one of the deepest quarterback rooms in the nation, with talent powerhouses like Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning and Trey Owens.
Owing to Manning's last name, many fans were hoping to see him take the stage in his second year at Texas after Ewers moved on to the NFL.
However, Quinn Ewers decided to stay with the Longhorns and come back for another year, which means Manning will spend another season as a backup.
In a conversation with Robert Griffin III, Ewers talked about his relationship with Arch Manning, as many people assume there is a cold war between them:
"I mean, during the season we go to, we do quarterback dinners every Tuesday and we go have dinner together after Tuesday meeting. So, I mean, the room is, I've never been in a closer room. I mean, all three years. It's been a super close room." (18:30)
For all the saucy gossip about potential rifts in the QB room, Ewers and Manning seem to be on the same page. Arch Manning will have to wait for his turn but that doesn't seem to have caused any bad blood between the two.
