"The new era begins": Colorado fans excited for Deion Sanders' new outlook for program after Shedeur Sanders' departure
After Shedeur Sanders' departure, Colorado fans are anticipating Deion Sanders' new direction for the program. As Sanders embarks on a new chapter with the Colorado Buffaloes in 2025, he's focusing solely on coaching.
Colorado's quarterback room is taking shape with two significant additions. The program landed five-star prospect Julian "JuJu" Lewis as Shedeur’s successor, while also bringing in Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter to strengthen their depth at the position.
During his first team meeting as head coach without his sons, Coach Prime said:
“I’ve been praying about this day; Now I could just be a coach and not be a Dad,” he said.
Fans are equally excited:
"The new era begins."
“Not a Colorado fan at all but I like Coach Prime he is really old school,” one wrote.
“I think our team gon be alot better with coach not playing Daddy ball no more, he just gon do whatever to win now,” one wrote.
“Opening the meeting talking about missing his sons, yeah he’s 100% in negotiations with the Raiders coaching and drafting his sons,” another wrote.
“May not do the dad walk but 100% he still a father figure to these young me,” another wrote.
“Time to really lock in and coach now,” one wrote.
Meanwhile, rumors are circulating about Sanders' potential return to Dallas – this time as a coach. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Deion Sanders and the Dallas Cowboys have expressed "mutual interest" in the Hall of Fame cornerback becoming the team's next head coach.
Deion Sanders in preliminary talks with Dallas Cowboys
Jerry Jones and Deion Sanders opened discussions about the Dallas Cowboys' head coaching position, ESPN's Todd Archer reported. Sanders, a Hall of Fame cornerback who starred for Dallas from 1995 to 1999, spoke with the Cowboys' owner and general manager on Monday.
The talks follow Dallas's decision to part ways with Mike McCarthy after his five-year tenure. McCarthy compiled a 49-35 regular-season record, finishing 7-10 in 2024.
During his Cowboys career, Sanders earned three first-team All-Pro selections and played a key role in the team's Super Bowl XXX victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Though no formal interview is set, Jones and Sanders reportedly plan to continue discussions. NFL rules require the Cowboys to interview two external minority candidates under the Rooney Rule. Fox Sports broke the news of their initial conversation.
