EA Sports College Football 25 has officially been out for a week and continues to receive high praise from many users. The game has made its much-anticipated return after a 10-year hiatus.
Players have had the chance to use all of the 134 included FBS schools to figure out which one best suits their playstyle. This list will rank the 10 best defensive teams in College Football 25 for players looking to use a squad that is dominant on that side of the ball.

#10 Penn State (Defense Rating: 88)
The Penn State Nittany Lions are one of six teams with an 88 overall defensive rating in the game. With players like Abdul Carter and Kevin Winston Jr., it's difficult not to include this elite defensive squad in the top 10.
Carter and Winston Jr. are both rated 91 overall, giving the defense top-rated players in the game on the defensive line and the secondary.
#9 Oklahoma (Defense Rating: 88)
The Sooners also boast an 88 overall defensive rating and have two defensive players rated inside College Football 25's top 100 players. MLB Danny Stutsman earned a 91 overall rating and SS Billy Bowman Jr. is a 90 overall.
#8 Iowa (Defensive Rating: 88)
Iowa is projected to be one of the top defenses in college football this year, and their 88 defensive rating is proof of that. They have four players on defense with an overall rating of 90 or more.
Jay Higgins (94), Sebastian Castro (92), Nick Jackson (90), and Xavier Nwankpa (90) are the top players on the Hawkeyes' defensive unit, and all rank inside the top 100 rated players in the game.

Carter is the 15th-highest rated player in the game with a 94 overall rating, with Woods earning a 90 overall.
#5 Alabama (Defense Rating: 90)
The Alabama Crimson Tide features six players rated inside the top 100 on College Football 25, including FS Malachi Moore and MLB Deonte Lawson from the defensive unit.
Moore is tied with C Parker Brailsford for the highest rating on the team at 92 overall, and Lawson is just behind them with a 90 overall rating.
#4 Notre Dame (Defense Rating: 90)
The Fighting Irish defense is led by CB Benjamin Morrison, FS Xavier Watts, and DT Howard Cross III. Morrison is the highest-rated player on the team with a 94 overall, followed by Watts (92) and Cross (90).
#3 Michigan (Defense Rating: 90)
The Michigan Wolverines were the top-ranked defense in the nation last season, allowing just 10.4 points per game to opponents. This coming season, top defensive players such as Will Johnson, Mason Graham, and Kenneth Grant are all returning to the team.
Cornerback Will Johnson is the highest-rated player in the game with a 96 overall rating. DT Mason Graham has a 95 overall rating with fellow DT Kenneth Grant at 91 overall.
#2 Georgia (Defense Rating: 94)
The Georgia Bulldogs are once again set to feature a stifling defensive unit in 2024. They are led by All-American FS Malaki Starks, who is the seventh-highest rated player in College Football 25 at 95 overall. LOLB Mykel Williams is also among the top 100 rated players in the game, with a 93 overall rating.
#1 Ohio State (Defense Rating: 96)
The Ohio State Buckeyes are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, and their defense has earned the highest overall rating in College Football 25. They have four defensive players who are included in the top 100 rated players in the game.
FS Caleb Downs is a 95 overall and was a huge transfer portal acquisition from Alabama. LE Jack Sawyer returns with a 92 overall rating, along with Denzel Burke (91) and Tyleik Williams (91).
