Top 10 highest ranked recruiting classes of 2024 in College football ft. Kirby Smart's Georgia

As the 2024 college football season draws ever closer, it's time to think about which team was recruiting the best freshmen who will be hitting the field.

The recruiting situation was essentially put to bed by National Signing Day in February. But as those talented freshmen prepare for college football action, it's time to revisit the nation's top recruiting classes.

These rankings are from 247sports.com, which uses its Composite rankings (a mixture of their rankings and those of other competing recruiting services) to assess teams. It's worth noting that these top 10 teams signed 59 of the 247sports' Top 100 players.

10. Auburn Tigers

How tough will recruiting be in the even higher-powered SEC? Tough enough that 10th in the nation is good for fifth in the conference.

Auburn was just 6-7 last year, but second-year coach Hugh Freeze has a great class incoming. Auburn nabbed five of 247sports' top 100 players in the nation, including five-star receiver Cam Coleman.

9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Marcus Freeman's Irish were 10-3 a year ago and are bringing in another solid group of freshmen. Notre Dame also grabbed five top 100 players, with their standout being five-star defensive lineman Bryce Young from North Carolina.

8. Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners improved from six wins to 10 in coach Brett Venables' second season in Norman. OU grabbed a greater number of players than many in this list. While the Sooner got only three top 100 recruits, they did get five-star defensive lineman David Stone from IMG Academy in Florida.

7. LSU Tigers

Likewise, LSU's class under Brian Kelly is long on numbers. After a pair of 10-win seasons, Kelly is looking for a splash in Year 3. He includes four top 100 recruits in this class, with the most notable being five-star in-state defensive lineman Dominick McKinley.

6. Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns open their SEC time with a great incoming class. Texas took six top 100 players, including a pair of five-star standouts. In-state linebacker Colin Simmons and St. Louis receiver Ryan Wingo lead the class.

5. Ohio State Buckeyes

Always looking to move up a level, the 11-2 Buckeyes have a great class. OSU took five top 100 players, but the best is No. 1 overall player Jeremiah Smith. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver from Florida could be a day-one star, even for the Buckeyes.

4. Miami Hurricanes

Miami coach Mario Cristobal hit the recruiting trail like his job depended on it, which it might. A 12-13 mark in two seasons hasn't been very impressive, but the 2024 freshman class certainly is. Miami managed to get six top 100 players. The highest-ranked recruit is Chicago defensive lineman Justin Scott.

3. Oregon Ducks

Dan Lanning and the Ducks have won 10 and 12 games in the last two years and are looking for another jump this coming season. Oregon signed seven top 100 recruits, including a pair of five-star standouts. Those five-star signees were Arizona edge rusher Elijah Rushing and Idaho wide receiver Gatlin Bair.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

The Tide did what they do, signing seven top 100 players in the class that bridged the Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer transition. Bama got five of the nation's top 31 players in this class. The biggest impact is probably five-star receiver Ryan Williams, an in-state playmaker whose recruitment went down to the wire.

1. Georgia Bulldogs

When it comes to recruiting, there is Georgia and there is everyone else. The Bulldogs signed 11 of the nation's top 100 recruits, including four five-star recruits. The nation's No. 2 overall recruit, cornerback Ellis Robinson IV, should fit right in.
