Top 3 college football teams with longest active regular-season win streaks in 2024 ft. Michigan
The 2024 regular season season is just a week away, and America is preparing for another unforgettable season. The usual suspects are expected to vie for supremacy and the next national championship. Georgia, Ohio State, Texas Alabama, are among the favorites.
This season includes a new thrill for fans, as this year will include the debut of the 12-team format playoffs, which will undoubtedly raise interest.
Ahead of the regular season, we'll review the list of the teams with the longest winning streaks and how they did in 2023.
Teams with the longest active regular-season wins
#3 Washington Huskies - 18 games
The Washington Huskies went to the national championship game in 2023, led by Kalen DeBoer as coach and Michael Penix Jr. in the center of the huddle. The Huskies went undefeated to the Pac-12 title game where they won their 18th conference title and earned a spot in the CFP in the eyes of the committee. In the semifinal, they defeated the Texas Longhorns 37-31, but were powerless in the final against Michigan.
The highlights of the Huskies' regular season were victories over Oregon, USC, Utah, and Oregon State.
#2 Michigan Wolverines - 28 games
The Wolverines won their much-awaited 12th national title in 2023 while becoming the winningest program in college football history. Currently, they have 1004 wins. 2023 was Jim Harbaugh's last season in charge of the team, as after winning the CFP the coach left for the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers. The season was plagued with scandals, which meant Harbaugh was suspended for almost half the season.
However, that wasn't enough to stop a Wolverines team that won the Big Ten in an undefeated fashion over Iowa. The highlight of their regular season was of course their third straight win over Ohio State, followed by a victory over Penn State.
#1 Georgia Bulldogs - 39 games
The Georgia Bulldogs are the king of the regular season, while also living year to year through one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The last time the Athens programs lost a regular-season game was in 2020 when they lost one game to Alabama and another to Florida. What followed were two back-to-back national title wins.
In 2023 they didn't win the national title, and they lost the SEC championship game to Alabama. Despite impressive wins over Missouri, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Tennessee, the committee didn't feel that Georgia was worthy of the playoffs last season.
