Top 3 predictions about Big 12 schools in Week 3 of college football seasonĀ
The Big 12 has certainly had an interesting opening to the 2024 season. Many of the league's top teams are 2-0 but will have a challenging Week 3 ahead. Pulling out the crystal ball, here are three predictions about Big 12 teams in Week 3.
Top 3 predictions about Big 12 teams in Week 3
1. Colorado's slide continues
The Buffs are 7-point favorites in Week 3 at Colorado State. Week 1 was a hard-fought win against an FCS opponent and Week 2 was an exposure. It wasn't an exposure of just a mediocre football team, it was an exposure of a culture.
Losing to Nebraska wasn't surprising. But for a second straight year, Colorado can't run the ball (22 rushes for 16 yards). For a second straight year, Shedeur Sanders is getting hit way too much and too hard (Nebraska sacked him six times). And for a second straight year, figuring out the chemistry of this program is impossible.
Deion Sanders' waiver-wire tactics with players aren't working. His coaching staff seem to be working with one foot out the door. The Coach Prime experiment has delivered big viewership, but it's also delivering football chaos. Look for Colorado State to cash in on that and send the Buffs to 1-2 on the year.
2. Arizona upsets Kansas State
Arizona isn't getting much respect off a pair of fairly ugly wins in the first two weeks. But as a 7.5-point road underdog, the dirty secret here is that Arizona is a sleeping giant. Kansas State barely squeaked past Tulane last week, allowing 342 passing yards.
Is this a good time to remember how explosive Arizona is offensively? QB Noah Fifita is averaging 10.4 yards per pass attempt, and wideout Tetairoa McMillan (12 catches, 315 yards, four touchdowns) is a Heisman candidate. Yes, the Arizona defense is shaky. This should be a 38-35 or 42-38 game. But Arizona can do that and will pull the upset.
3. Garrett Greene has a huge week for West Virginia
At 1-1, West Virginia hasn't showed much, but they have a big battle with Pittsburgh. The Mountaineers are 2-point road favorites. QB Garrett Greene has been sort of ho-hum in 2024.
The guess here is that Greene goes off. Look for a 300-yard passing, 100-yard rushing type of performance from Greene. Pitt was lucky to escape against Cincinnati, but WVU and Greene will take care of them.
