1. LSU blasts South Carolina
LSU has underachieved so far in the season, while South Carolina comes off a rousing victory at Kentucky. But seeing the Tigers as mere 7-point road favorites is something of a surprise.
Yes, South Carolina's defense has looked good against Old Dominion and Kentucky. But pressure won't phase LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier, who has completed 75 percent of his passes this year for 610 yards and eight scores. LSU won't just win, they'll thump Carolina, putting up a beatdown to emphasize that they should be taken seriously in the College Football Playoff hunt.
2. Missouri will struggle with Boston College
Missouri has climbed to No. 6 in the AP polls but hasn't played meaningful competition. Meanwhile, Boston College is like prior Missouri teams. The Eagles are good at running the ball, smart in the passing game, and tough on defense.
BC is a 16.5-point underdog, so picking the outright upset seems a big guess. But suffice it to say that this will be a game into the fourth quarter and that BC will expose some Missouri weaknesses before falling late.
3. Oklahoma gets upset
Oklahoma was lucky to survive Week 2 in a 16-12 grinder over Houston. Jon Sumrall's Tulane team is substantially better. Tulane nearly upset top 25 Kansas State last week and will have enough offensive punch to test the Sooners. The Green Wave are a 13.5-point underdog, but if Oklahoma's offense doesn't deliver something special, Tulane will pull off the upset.
4. Florida takes down A&M
A less substantial upset but an important one is that Florida makes one final rally for Billy Napier's job. DJ Lagway is the QB, and that's a badly kept secret. Yes, Lagway will make some mistakes. But he's also the kind of high-end talent Florida has to have. Meanwhile, A&M has been less than impressive and won't be able to counter an early offensive UF punch.
5. Dylan Sampson as SEC Player of the Week
Forget the QBs, when Tennessee inevitably rolls over Kent State, watch out for Dylan Sampson, who will be the SEC Player of the Week. Sampson leads the SEC in rushing at 256 yards. He has scored five touchdowns in two games. With UT trying to give up too many passing game secrets, he'll have a huge game against the Golden Flashes.
