Top 5 college football players who will miss Week 3 games due to injuries ft. Max Johnson

Injuries remain a significant part of college football. Even with Week 3 approaching, some significant players are either certain or likely to miss Week 3 action. While teams haven't yet set official injury charts, here are five top players who are certainly or maybe going to be sidelined in Week 3 due to injuries.

#5. Shilo Sanders, Colorado S

Unfortunately for Colorado fans, there's no mystery about Sanders' status. After breaking his arm against Nebraska, Sanders underwent surgery. There's been no official announcement, but the injury is likely season-ending. Even if not, Sanders certainly won't be in action this weekend against Colorado State.

Sanders had 11 tackles in the young 2024 season. Colorado's defense has struggled and likely will struggle more without one of its top secondary playmakers.

#4. Kadyn Proctor, Alabama OT

Proctor, who had a whirlwind offseason in transferring away from and back to Alabama, hasn't seen the field yet in 2024. A shoulder injury has sidelined him so far, although coach Kalen DeBoer termed Proctor "pretty dang close" to being able to return. Alabama has an open week after this game, so don't be surprised if the Tide keep Proctor back another week.

#3. Nic Anderson, Oklahoma WR

The Sooner offense struggled mightily in Week 2, scoring just 16 points in the game. Injuries, particularly at wide receiver, have been significant. A season ago, Anderson caught 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns. He hasn't been on the field yet in 2024.

Anderson is battling an undisclosed injury and could possibly see the field this week, with coach Brent Venables saying the sophomore star could return "sooner rather than later." Still, there's no certainty that Anderson is ready to go.

#2. Tajh Brooks, Texas Tech RB

Outstanding back Brooks is indicated as questionable after missing Tech's Week 2 game at Washington State. Brooks apparently sustained an arm injury, but with North Texas on the schedule this week, the Red Raiders may not be hasty in rushing Brooks back.

In Week 1, Brooks had 153 yards rushing and a touchdown, and he's off a season with 1,538 yards and 10 scores. It's not impossible that he'll play, but all things considered, don't be surprised if Tech sits Brooks another week.

#1. Max Johnson, North Carolina QB

There's no question about Johnson, as he broke his leg in Carolina's season-opening win over Minnesota. It was certainly bad luck for a quality passer who has been in the mix at LSU and Texas A&M but could never claim the starting job. He did so at UNC but lasted less than a full game.

In Johnson's absence, backup Connor Harrell has become the starter. Johnson won't play again in 2024, so the Tar Heels adjustment will have to last for the season.
