Top 5 oldest active college football players ready to make noise in 2024 ft. Cam McCormick

There was a time when a college football career lasted four years or maybe five. But between injuries, transfers, the "free" COVID year granted by the NCAA, college careers are extending.

In fact, here are five of the oldest active college football players. Schools don't give out birthdates for many players, but measuring by when these guys started college, they're an old, old group.

#5. Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville

The veteran passer started college in 2018. He spent three years at Oregon, two years at Texas Tech and is about to start his second year at Louisvlle.

It's been a patchwork career for Shough, but he has thrown for 4,625 yards and 36 touchdowns. Louisville is hoping for big things in 2024.

#4. Cam Rising, QB, Utah

The Utes have a pair of significant seventh year contributors on offense. In Rising's case, the recent NCAA ruling on the COVID year could give him yet another season of eligibility. Rising was Utah's starter in 2021 and 2022.

For Rising's career, he has passed for 5,572 yards and 46 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. If he can stay healthy, he's one of college football's better QBs. There's certainly reason to worry about Rising's health, but so far, he's ready to be back on the field.

#3. Brant Kuithe, TE, Utah

Another Utah player, another seventh-year situation. Kuithe, who first came to Utah in 2018, missed the entire 2023 season due to injury. But for his career-- all at Utah-- he has snagged 148 catches for 1,882 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Kuithe is unusual in that he's spent his entire career at Utah. He missed most of 2022 as well as all of 2023 with injuries. Still, his upside could make him a standout at the next level.

#2. Jermayne Lole, DL, Texas

Lole started his college career in 2018, making the upcoming season his seventh collegiate season. Lole started his time at Arizona State, transferred to Louisville, and has now moved along to Texas.

Lole has played in 42 career games, starting 33 games. He has 142 career tackles and 12.5 sacks for his career. Lole's best season was 2019, when he had 72 tackles and 6.5 sacks for Arizona State.

#1.Cam McCormick, TE, Miami

McCormick's first year of college was... wait for it... 2016. Barack Obama was President when McCormick started playing college football. Now 26 years old, McCormick has battled a ton of injuries. He began his career at Oregon and after redshirting, he played in 2017. Injuries limited him to three games played over the next three years.

For his career, McCormick has caught 26 passes for 231 yards and four touchdowns. He has played in 42 collegiate games, starting 21.
