Week 6 CFB updates: 5 teams with best odds to make college football playoff
As the college football season continues, the College Football Playoff picture is getting clearer. Obviously, it's much too early to be certain of a spot, but there are some teams trending that way. Here are five teams with the best odds of reaching the Playoff.
Five teams with best odds to make college football playoff
#5 Tennessee
The 4-0 Vols are trending toward the playoff. UT is tied with Georgia, at -300 odds, and is ranked fourth in ESPN's FPI with a 77.9% chance of reaching that goal.
Tennessee's remaining schedule includes Alabama and a game at Georgia, but the remaining games aren't particularly intimidating. Even a 10-2 Tennessee team would have a solid shot at the CFP.
#4 Oregon
Vegas is much more bullish on Oregon's chances than ESPN. Oregon is the fourth most likely team to reach the Playoff, per Vegas odds of -400. But ESPN's FPI gives the Ducks just a 60.3% chance, which is seventh-best in college football.
Aside from the Ducks' Oct. 12 game against Oregon, there's no other massive game, aside from maybe at Michigan. Oregon has an excellent shot.
#3 Texas
Five-zero Texas is very likely Playoff bound. Vegas has the Longhorns at -700, while ESPN's FPI is even more positive.
Texas has a 91.2% chance of reaching the Playoff, per FPI, which is the second best shot in the nation. Texas has an off week and a remaining schedule with only Georgia as a major challenge.
#2 Alabama
The Tide have tons of momentum off their win over Georgia. Alabama is now the most favored team by ESPN's FPI to reach the playoff, with a 91.7% chance.
Vegas has the odds on the Tide at -1000 to make the playoff. The 4-0 Tide still have to play at Tennessee, LSU and Oklahoma, but they're off to a likely start for the Playoff.
#1 Ohio State
The Buckeyes are the favorite of betting odds, at -1200, to make the CFP. ESPN is not quite as bullish on Ohio State's chances.
The FPI projects OSU at an 85.7% chance to make the playoff, which is the third best in the nation. Games at Oregon (Oct. 12), Penn State (Nov. 2) and at home against Michigan (Nov. 30) remain. But the Buckeyes are likely to end up in the college football playoff this year.
