What's next for Colorado Buffaloes after Week 7 loss to K-State? 3 things Deion Sanders said at press conference

Deion Sanders has done a great job of turning things around for the Colorado Buffaloes in a short time. While they have matched their win total from last season, they suffered their second loss of the 2024 college football season and their first loss of Big 12 play, in Week 7.

The Buffaloes suffered a 31-28 loss to the then-No. 18-ranked Kansas State Wildcats, falling to 4-2 for the season. They spent much of the game trailing, falling behind by as many as 14 points halfway through the third quarter. While they showed resilience and battled back - even taking the lead at one point - their comeback eventually fell short.

Take a look at three takeaways from Deion Sanders' press conference following the game.

What did Deion Sanders say following the Colorado Buffaloes' Week 7 loss?

#1 Praised players for stepping up following big time injuries

The Colorado Buffaloes suffered multiple injuries to their wide receiver's room during their Week 7 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. Two-way star Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons suffered injuries, leading others to step up. Deion Sanders praised the group:

"Certainly, losing Travis and Jimmy and others was tremendous because they’re a vital part of our team, vital part of our identity; they’re a vital part of who we are. So that took a blow. … That look a lot out of us. But other guys had the opportunity to step up and they did. So I’m proud of them."

#2 Criticized the team's tackling

The loss of Travis Hunter hurt the Colorado Buffaloes on both sides of the ball. Their defense allowed three straight scoring drives, which led to 17 points, immediately after he left the game. Deion Sanders criticized the unit's tackling ability:

"We didn’t tackle well today, whatsoever. We didn’t get to the ball as a unit today, whatsoever. We had some busts and a few things. I’m telling you, I hear the calls, and (defensive coordinator Robert Livingston) called a pretty darn good game. He called a really good game, and we just got to execute the calls."

#3 Praised the team's heart following comeback effort

Despite losing multiple key players to injury and falling behind late, the Colorado Buffaloes never gave up. Deion Sanders praised his team's effort:

"This team has heart. They have integrity. They’re tough. They love to play this game. We just came up short. We got to just learn how to win these particular games." [h/t USA Today]
