When was the last time Florida Gators were shut out in football?

The No. 5 Texas Longhorns defeated the Florida Gators with a decisive 49-17 victory in Week 11 of the 2024 college football season. This marked Florida’s worst loss in three seasons under coach Billy Napier.

Texas quickly pulled ahead, reaching a 35-0 lead by halftime and extending their advantage to as much as 42 points in the second half. The Longhorns effectively capitalized on Florida’s mistakes, scoring 21 points off three turnovers.

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers took full advantage of Florida’s weakened secondary, throwing for 333 yards and five touchdowns before giving way to backup Arch Manning in the third quarter.

In his first starting game, redshirt freshman quarterback Aidan Warner struggled, completing 12 of 25 passes for 132 yards and two interceptions. Freshman DJ Lagway, a native of Willis, Texas, warmed up pre-game but ultimately didn’t play in his return to his home state.

When was the last time Florida was shut out?

Florida’s last shutout occurred 36 years ago, on October 29, 1988, when the Auburn Tigers defeated the Gators 16-0 in Gainesville. Since then, Florida has scored in every game, marking the nation’s longest active scoring streak in major college football.

As of Week 11 of the 2024 season, Florida has scored points in 457 consecutive games. During the first half of their recent game against Texas, however, the Gators faced the possibility of a shutout, trailing 35-0 at halftime.

Interestingly, the last time Florida was shut out on the road was six years before the Auburn game, in a neutral-site game against rival Georgia. The Gators lost that matchup, held in Jacksonville, 44-0 in 1982 at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, a day that offered little celebration for Florida fans.
