Where is Colorado Buffaloes' football stadium? Closer look at rich history of Folsom Field

The Colorado Buffaloes have an important 2024 season with second-year coach Deion Sanders. While the team aims to post a winning season under "Coach Prime," some fans have been curious to learn more about the Buffaloes' home stadium.

Where is Colorado Buffaloes' football stadium?

The Colorado Buffaloes' football stadium is called Folsom Field. It was initially called Colorado Stadium, but the name was changed to Folsom Field in 1944 following the death of Colorado's legendary coach Frederick Folsom. The stadium is on the campus of the University of Colorado in Boulder.

The stadium opened in 1924 and has been home to the Buffs ever since. The playing surface in the arena was covered with natural grass until the 1971 season before it was replaced with Astroturf.

Most recently, the Buffaloes' stadium was renovated in 2014. The arena can accommodate 50,183 fans for a game.

Colorado won its first and only national title in 1990. The Buffaloes have also won 26 conference titles.

Notably, Colorado played in the Big 12 from 1996 to 2010. The Buffs moved to the Pac-12 for 13 seasons but will return to the Big 12 from the 2024 season onward.

There was a lot of hype around Colorado when the Buffaloes appointed Deion Sanders as their head coach in December 2022. "Coach Prime" even lived up to the hype early in the 2023 season, when the results were going his way.

Sanders' Colorado raced to a 3-0 start last season. However, the Buffaloes recorded just one win in their remaining nine regular-season games. They finished with a 4-8 record and did not qualify for a bowl game.

Nonetheless, that was still an improvement on the Buffs' 2022 season, when they managed just one win before Sanders' appointment.

Colorado will open its 2024 college football season by hosting North Dakota State on Aug. 29.
