It hasn't been the season Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans and Greg Schiano's Rutgers might have envisioned. To start the 2024 season, the Trojans were a ranked program but find themselves 3-4, 16th in the Big Ten. The Rutgers are only slightly better, wjth a 4-3 record and 13th in Big Ten.

Saturday marks the first time the two opponents face each other as Big Ten members. Both are striving for bowl eligibility with hopes to make the 12-team College Playoff field out of hands.

Rutgers vs USC Game Preview

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights started the season with four wins on the trot, registering wins against Howard, Akron, Virginia Tech and Washington. However, post that, they have been on a three-game losing streak, losing against Nebraska, Wisconsin and UCLA.

Their offense has been led by Athan Kaliakmanis, who has started all games thus far. However, he has been less efficient in terms of passing, only completing 104 of 195 pass attempts for 1337 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Giving him good support through rush is leading running back Kyle Monangai, who has 845 rushing yards on 154 carries, resulting in 10 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the USC Trojans started the season winning impressively against the LSU Tigers before falling to Michigan in Week 3. Moreover, they have lost their last three games, the latest of which came against Maryland last week, changing from playoff hopefuls to a bowl-eligible team.

The Trojans are led by their starting quarterback Miller Moss. The signal caller has been impressive, throwing for 14 touchdowns against six interceptions while throwing at 63%. However, the Trojans' run game hasn't been as expected, with their lead running back Woody Marks only accounting for 661 years and five touchdowns.

The Trojans are favored to snap their losing streak, but their defense need to make sure not to let their opponents sneak out a win.
