Why is Texas ranked below Ohio State in Week 9 AP Top 25 Poll?
The Texas Longhorns fell from the top position in the Week 8 AP Poll to fifth in Week 9, falling behind the Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes. There are a lot of questions about why the Longhorns are ranked below another one-loss team, the Buckeyes.
Let's take a closer look at why OSU is ahead of the Longhorns, according to Week 9's AP Poll.
Why is Texas ranked below Ohio State?
#1 The Georgia defeat was the worst loss
When looking at the Texas and Ohio State's losses this season, the AP voters are going to compare the defeats.
For the Longhorns, they were decimated at home against a team that ranked fifth in the nation. Compare that to the Buckeyes, who were on the road against the third-ranked team and lost by a single point and were a second away from attempting a game-winning field goal.
All losses are not equal, so this makes a lot of sense. Texas' loss was more significant than Ohio State's.
#2 Texas' loss exposed team's shortcomings
The Texas Longhorns hadn't faced a significant opponent before their Week 8 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, which took its toll on AP voters, as the Longhorns were completely outgunned.
Texas failed to get much going, as it went from a national championship favorite to having a lot of questions, including starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. The overall play for the Longhorns was like nothing many have imagined.
They were a 4.5-point favorite against the Bulldogs but were unable to get anything going in the first 30 minutes. It was completely different than the Ohio State Buckeyes, who were off in Week 8 and played an ultra-competitive game before being outscored 10-3 in the fourth quarter.
It just makes sense why the Ohio State Buckeyes are fourth in the country while the Texas Longhorns dropped to fifth in the Week 9 AP Poll.
