Will Howard 2025 NFL Draft Projections: Where could Ohio State QB go?
It was announced on Thursday afternoon that Ohio State Buckeyes transfer Will Howard has won the starting job for the upcoming college football season, which seemed to be all but a formality after Kyle McCord transferred to the Syracuse Orange during the offseason.
However, people are beginning to discuss Will Howard's 2025 NFL draft projections as a result as he is eligible for the pros after this season.
Here's a closer look at where he could wind up in the pros and where he will be slotted.
Will Howard's 2025 NFL draft projections
Howard is not expected to be one of the top players in the 2025 NFL draft and with a lot of talented quarterbacks ranked ahead of them – like Texas Longhorns' Quinn Ewers, Colorado Buffaloes' Shedeur Sanders and Georgia Bulldogs' Carson Beck – Howard will be a Day 3 pick. That means he will likely be a backup quarterback to begin his NFL career but he is in the best position possible to shoot up with his draft stock.
Being the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes means Will Howard is going to have excellent skill position players and a bright spotlight on him to shine. After spending the last four years with the Kansas State Wildcats, getting to play under the bright lights at Ohio Stadium could bolster him to a third or fourth-round pick with an excellent season.
Which team makes the most sense for Will Howard?
There are not too many teams that are looking for a starting quarterback entering the 2025 NFL season but that is not what Howard needs to be. Instead, he can work as a backup with a veteran ahead of him as he learns the ropes of being a professional athlete.
One team that could make sense for him is the Pittsburgh Steelers. This would give the team an option if they do not like either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields after a season with both of them. Even if they are going to be keeping one of the quarterbacks, Howard could be a solid backup and learn a lot under coach Mike Tomlin as well as being with a loaded roster immediately.
