Will Quinn Ewers enter the transfer portal? Exploring the Longhorns QB's future at Texas
Quinn Ewers has had an up-and-down season for the Texas Longhorns despite missing two full games and more than half of another with an injury. The five-star prospect and top-ranked overall recruit in the 2021 recruiting class has made 11 starts, throwing for 2,665 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 66.2% passes.
While Arch Manning - a five-star prospect and top-ranked overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class - is waiting in the wings. There have been reports that Ewers will enter the transfer portal following the season. So, let's take a look at whether the Longhorns starting quarterback could enter the transfer portal following the College Football Playoff below.
Will Quinn Ewers enter the transfer portal?
Quinn Ewers doesn't appear likely to be back with the Texas Longhorns next season. Arch Manning has shone when called upon, appearing in eight games and making two starts in place of an injured Ewers.
Manning has thrown for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The highly touted quarterback has completed 67.8% passes and added 100 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries.
While Ewers' successor appears ready to take over at Texas, don't expect to see the five-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class back at the collegiate level. All signs indicate that he has made up his mind to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. On3 Sports' Pete Nakos reported Ewers' plans in November:
"Sources told On3 on Monday night that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has no intention at this point of entering the transfer portal." [h/t On3 Sports]
Bobby Burton of On Texas Football shared similar news in a tweet earlier this week:
"Just to be clear: Quinn Ewers is going two places. 1. The college football playoffs. 2. Then, the next stop is the NFL draft. Put an end to the idiots of X. #TheEnd"

Ewers' agent, Luke McMurtrey, confirmed his client's plans in response to a report alleging that he was contemplating a return to college football. McMurtrey said:
"FAKE NEWS, source: @QuinnEwers team 🤘🏼"

While reports surfaced that Ewers has a $4 million offer to return to college football, he appears ready to join the professional ranks.
The Longhorns man will likely be the most coveted quarterback via the transfer portal. For now, he will look to lead Texas to their first national title since 2005 before entering the 2025 NFL Draft. The Longhorns host the Clemson Tigers on Dec. 21.
