"You're not picking very well": 7x champ Nick Saban receives reality check from granddaughter on new gig
College football fans were heartbroken when Nick Saban announced his retirement in early January. However, they rejoiced after learning the ex-coach would continue appearing on television.
After joining ESPN's College GameDay, Saban's playful personality gained a fresh place in the hearts and minds of his audience. However, while fans enjoy Saban's analysis and banter alongside his co-hosts, the former seven-time CFB champion has struggled to get one thing right.
Quite simply, Saban's picks have been bad. In Week 1, he chose the West Virginia Mountaineers to win against Penn State. The Nittany Lions won the game 34-12. Saban's luck fared no better in Week 2 when he picked Auburn to upend California. The Golden Bears downed War Eagle 21-14.
This week, to improve his luck, Saban sought advice from his granddaughter:
"I haven't been picking so well. After the Alabama game, my granddaughter was in the back on Saturday night, and somebody else that I picked, lost. She said to me, you're not picking very well. And I said, I know. She said, I know what you should do, whatever team you think will win, pick the other guy, and you'll be fine."
Who did Nick Saban pick in Week 3?
The College GameDay crew traveled to Columbia this week for a marquee matchup between LSU and South Carolina. Saban has a notable history with the Tigers. He coached LSU from 2000 to 2004, and they won a national championship in 2003.
Nick Saban, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard chose LSU as the favorite for its Week 3 matchup against South Carolina.
"I really like the way South Carolina played last week against Kentucky. They showed a lot of toughness playing on the road. But I think LSU's team is going to find itself because they're the more talented team. I'm going to go with LSU."
Pat McAfee is the only one who chose Shane Beamer's South Carolina squad to win this week. With their SEC clash now final, the Tigers eked by the Gamecocks 36-33. It appears Saban's grandaughter is his lucky charm.
