Is Daredevil A mutant or an inhuman? Explained

When it comes to popular street-level Marvel superheroes, then Daredevil/Matt Murdock is a name that will surely pop up. Arguably the second most popular Marvel superhero in red after Spider-Man, the Devil of Hell's Kitchen has become a fan favorite over the years. While his powers are unique in themselves, it often pops the question of whether Matt is more than just a superpowered human or not.

While Daredevil's abilities are surely impressive, some fans can get him mixed up with being a mutant or an inhuman too. However, Matt isn't a mutant or an inhuman, but just someone with advanced reflexes and hearing who was trained extremely well in combat.

To be a mutant, you need the X-Gene to be in your genome, while inhumans were generally created by the Kree. However, in the case of Matt Murdock, he is just a kid from Hell's Kitchen who has a tragic backstory to his name.

Daredevil's abilities in the comics explained

Daredevil, aka Matt Murdock was born to Jonathan Murdock and grew up in a relatively poor household. While his father was a boxer, he always hoped for Matt to constantly study and grow up to be a doctor or a lawyer, as Jonathan considered himself to be uneducated. However, this led to Matt being considered cowardly by other children.

Mocking him with the name of "Daredevil" by those who bullied him, Matt would go to his father's gym to take out his frustration. One day, Matt then saw a blind man trying to cross the road. With a truck almost about to run him over, Matt saved the blind man, however, the truck was carrying dangerous chemicals that spilled out and blinded Matt in his eyes.

Waking up in the hospital, Matt realized that his sense of smell, hearing, touch, and taste had become more than ordinary. Alongside that, he developed a radar sense as well. Matt would then receive training from Stick, another blind man with great fighting abilities, and he then utilized his skills even more effectively.

Despite being a human, Daredevil is easily one of the most gifted characters in the Marvel universe. He can sense anyone from a mile away, and having great martial arts skills effectively makes him a great fighter too.

Why can't Daredevil be a mutant or an inhuman?

For Daredevil to be a mutant or an inhuman, he would need to have certain biology that he doesn't possess. In the case of mutants, Matt Murdock would need to have the X-Gene in his DNA, which would help define him as a mutant. This would lead to his mutation being manifested when he hits puberty or goes through a traumatic event.

While his blinding could be seen as a traumatic event and even came at a time when he was going through puberty, it still doesn't mean that he is a mutant due to the lack of the X-Gene. In the case of being an inhuman, it would be a whole other story as well.

Inhumans are an offshoot of humans that were created by the Kree empire. Unfortunately, Matt doesn't carry any inhuman lineage to him at all, thus stopping him from being an inhuman as well.
