Ishana Night Shyamalan's The Watchers gets first trailer, gives first look at Dakota Fanning

The highly-anticipated Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut in the form of The Watchers recently received a brand new trailer which gave fans a first glimpse into the role of Dakota Fanning. The popular actress plays the role of Mina, a solo traveler who takes a trip into a particularly remote Irish forest.

The 3-minute long trailer gave fans a glimpse of exactly how her journey takes several sorry turns and ends up with her meeting three strangers. The movie has a commendable cast apart from Dakota Fanning herself, as the main characters end up stranded in a mysterious bunker surrounded by creatures who watch them at night.

The trailer in itself revealed the extent of the inspiration Ishana Night Shyamalan has taken from her father with respect to her debut. It makes use of some terrifying sound sequences to further the narrative. The trailer also amplifies the mysterious nature of the creatures in the dark, which despite not being visible makes for a fearsome presence in the clip. Here, we look at everything the latest trailer revealed with respect to The Watchers.

The Watchers’ latest trailer gives fans first look at Dakota Fanning

The Watchers' trailer opens up with arguably the most eerie scene of the entire clip. A bright-eyed Dakota Fanning is seen talking to her pet parakeet. The bird, however, has an impending warning for Mina, Fanning’s character, and repeatedly asks her to ‘try not to die.’

However, Mina, intent on going on her solo adventure to the vast forests of Ireland, pays no heed and is seen embarking on the journey, along with the bird. She is seen hiking across mysterious forests, which seems to quickly turn more difficult. Mina ends up getting lost, is stranded without food, and ends up traversing deeper into the eerie forest. Fanning stumbles deeper, gets injured, and then eventually comes across an abandoned bunker where she meets another group of people.

The strangers, played by the likes of Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouéré also appear to have lost their way as the group decides to take shelter in the prison-like structure. As it turns out, the trailer also reveals the prison-like nature of the bunker, as the creatures in question are revealed to watch the property ‘every night.’

The trailer does not give fans a glimpse at the monsters themselves. However, the rhythm of the sound sequence and their snarling voices make for a terrifying overall watch.

The Watchers' trailer also reveals some aspects of the story. As it turns out, Mina’s character has set out to look for her husband, who had previously gotten lost and was presumed dead in the same region of Ireland. The clip then shows how the monsters outside attempt to trick Mina.

Her former lover is seen looking at a camera that the group had set out to capture the monsters they heard. However, Mina’s husband, fully naked, turns up in the video, asking Fanning’s character to ‘help him.’

This leads to Mina concluding that she had no option other than going outside, despite being warned by her friends that the monsters are simply playing a trick. The trailer concludes with Fanning’s reel husband breaking the camera, after which the details of the release pop up on the screen.

There is little doubt that the trailer in itself has done nothing but increase the hype for Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut. Fanning, embroiled in a seemingly epic horror adventure, will be seen starring in what can be expected to be one of the biggest horror releases of the year. The Watchers will premiere worldwide on June 14, 2024, which means fans only have to wait for a few more weeks.
